Wow. Thank you for sharing, Patricia. I wonder if people who are enthralled by Donald Trump would want their own children/grandchildren to embody his "virtues"? Would they want their flesh and blood to be able to look them in the eye and (maybe somewhat less than 30,000 fact-checked) lie to their faces? Would they want this to be their legacy for future generations?
My own dear father was a man of integrity. In our discussions, his questions were always, "Did you do your best?" and " If you had it to do all over again, would you still do the same?"
Thanks for reading and your comments Stephanie. It's hard to give up a friendship, but I cannot accept one who approves of and supports this evil man as a "friend," on the same side of the line with those with whom I share similar, if not identical, basic values.
I am curious whether many of the supporters are open to reason. I experienced it first hand when the husband of a friend interrupted a conversation about Trump between another guest and myself in her home. He said, "You are getting into dangerous territory". At that moment, I felt sad and sorry for him that he was so fragile he could not bear two people talking about someone he voted for. I do suspect Trump gives vulnerable people permission to be their worst selves since he, himself, embodies it.
I'm so sorry. I went through a similar experience. A friend left the UK many years ago for the US, settled there and married an American. She was an early supporter and became more vehement and more vocal in her beliefs as time went on. I tried for a long time until I couldn't.

Tell it, Sister <3
You say it well.
I didn’t read all this but the primary people I hear saying things like our friendship is more than our politics are T supporters.
